The English cover of Kakashi Hiden |
The Light Novel Kakashi Hiden: Lightning in the Icy Sky (カカシ秘伝 氷天の雷, Hyōten no Ikazuchi, official English title vom Viz-Verlag: Naruto: Kakashi's Story — Lightning in the Frozen Sky) having been released 2015 is the first book on the Naruto Hiden book series. It's written by the author Akira Higashiyama (東山彰良) and illustrated by the Naruto-Mangaka Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史).
Kakashi Hiden is divided in 14 chapters (plus prologue and epilogue). The book's entire plot is set one year AFTER the 4th Great Ninja War and one year BEFORE The Last: Naruto the Movie. Up to this point, it hadn't been animated but if it's gonna ever animated in the future, it's more unlikely.
By the way, there ain't no German version of this book, so I've read in English.
In the following, I'm gonna describe the plot of the Light Novel Kakashi Hiden and simultaneously elaborate a few relevant details of this book in in the context of the entire Naruto story-line. So, let's go:
The Ryūha Armament Alliance, a collective of rogue ninjas from the Land of Waves and founded after the 4th Great Ninja War, is the main villain organization which has to be defeated in this light novel. They follow Madara's example from the creation of an ideal world by targetting the goal to liberate the world from the money's corrupt influcences whereby - as expected - they overstate their case and moreover, they stick at nothing, even if it means hostage-taking and killing innocent civilians.
Kakashi and Guy are the ones who combat the Ryūha Armament Alliance whereat the fight takes place in the flying ship being called Tobishachimaru and having been built by Inari and Tazuna. Said alliance doesn't even refrain taking the passangers as hostage.
Remarkably, Guy fights as well even though he has to live the rest of his life as wheelchair user. As the fight progresses, Kakashi and Guy are additionally backed up, especially by Sai.
The three main members of the Ryūha Armament Alliance are:
A fanart where, Kahyō and Rahyō are shown too (but I couldn't find fanart of Garyō) |
Kahyō (華氷), a blue-haired Kunoichi being able to use the Ice Style; coming originally from the Hidden Mist Village before having emigrated to the Land of Waves. She was married and had a son named Hakuhyō (薄氷) with her husband (who remains nameless). Hakuhyō died during the 4th Great Ninja War cuz he got dangerously ill but all doctors had been hired by the Shinobi Alliance at that time and thus, he died as a result of his illness. This causes Kahyō joining the Ryūha Armament Alliance in order to ensure that no one has to be suffer the same way like Hakuhyō. As Kakashi get to know this, he shows sympathy but states clearly that this doesn't justify the killing of innocent civilians.
Rahyō (羅氷) who is Kahyō's older brother can use the Ice Style as well and for the same reason as her, he had joined the Ryūha Armament Allaince. He has dark-blond hairs and a beard. Furthermore, he is very skilled in Taijutsu and Kenjutsu (sword combat). Besides, he is the one who tries to blackmail Tsunade to the extent that he kills one hostage every ten minutes if Garyō ain't released from the Blood Prison, nicht aus dem Blutgefängnis entlassen wird - er dann alle zehn Minuten einen Passagier tötet.
Mainly, he is attacked by Guy who can stand up to him intensely
I won't tell you how the fight is decided and if Kakashi's Talk no Jutsu works in one way or another cuz I don't wanna spoil you. Therefore, read this light novel for yourselves. You can read this book in English or in Japanese.
And now, up to the events and aspects from Kakashi Hiden who can be embed within the context of the entire Naruto story-line. I chose four of them:
1) Tazuna and his grandson Inari (having already debuted in the Zabuza arc in Naruto Classic and been the clients concerning Team 7's first real mission) appears in Kakashi Hiden (where they had built the Tobishachimaru) one again. But they had also a guest appearance in Naruto Shippūden where they helped reconstructing the devastated Hidden Leaf Village after the fight against Pain.
2) Kakashi uses Lightning Style: Purple Electricity which he can utilize without being depended on the Sharingan (cuz he needed it for the precise accuracy for the Chidori as well as the Lightning Blade) and which is versatile. It's also used in the Boruto anime series several times.
3) A group of people who feels being treated unjustly and acting upon the motto "The end justifies the mean" (in this case, the Ryūha Armament Alliance) - a phenomenon occasionally occuring in Boruto and partly shamelessly milked by the evil organization Kara. In other words, if Kara had already existed - non too long after the 4th Great Ninja War - , the members of the Armament Ryūha Alliance had been recruited as Outers. Within Kara, there is a distuingushment between the Inners (the real members) and the Outers who ain't real members but rather in the sens being just affiliated with Kara.

And to those among you who has read Kakashi Hiden before: I'd be interested in knowing how do you think about it. Do you wish it was animated (as a flashback in Boruto)? Or do you think the train has left the station cuz it should have already animated in Naruto Shippūden? Don't hesitate writing it in the comments.
Akira Higashiyama |
Aside from Kakashi Hiden, he was also involved in four additional Naruto-light novels as author:
- The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi (2010)
- Naruto: Demon Castle in the Light (Blood Prison) (2011). It's the light novel adaption of Naruto the Movie: Blood Prison.
- Naruto Jinraiden: The Day the Wolf Howled (2012) which had been only released in Japan up to the present
- The Tale of the Utterly Purehearted Shinobi (2015). Simiar to The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi, it's a hypertext.
