Theory: Is Mercenary Tao from the "Dragon Ball" series able to fly? And why he uses a tree trunk?

You surely know Mercenary Tao, one of the first main villains from the entire Dragon Ball series. The assassin-to-hire returned during the Piccolo-Arc in Dragon Ball Classic as Cyborg and guest-starred in Dragon Ball Z (but not in the HD remastered remake Dragon Ball Z Kai) in some occassions.
As far as I concerned, I wish a rematch between Tien and Mercenary Tao (or Chiaotzu and Mercenary Tao) in Dragon Ball Super , with the meta message: "Since we no longer belong to your brother's school, we are realy fine and thanks to Master Roshi, you and me are poles apart".

At any rate, Tao have never been seen flying but he "flew" by a tree trunk or a pillar.
But is he really able to fly? Eventually, he is younger brother of Master Shen (aka the Crane Hermit) who was the sensei of Tien and Chiaotzu (before they jumped ship) and logically, he ought to be able to fly.

Obviously, I wanna get to the bottom of this question.
In the following, I'm going to collect all evidences; show if they can be considered as hints and in the end, conclude if Tao is really able to fly.

Let's go:

1. In the games Dragon Ball Z - Budokai Tenkaichi 1 and 3, he is able to fly

Mercenary Tao as human and either as his Cyborg alteration is able to fly in both of these games. And every character who is able to fly in the story line can also fly in the games. Therefore, Tao would be able to fly in the story line too. Everyone who also played the both of these games know what I'm talking about. Of course, for the case you've never played Budokai Tenkaichi 3 before, you're gonna find lots of YouTube videos whereby you gain some impressions of it and you're gonna see that Mercenary Tao is able to fly in this game.

2. He is Master Shen's brother
The fact that Tao is Shen's brother doesn't mean the two of them had learned flying at the same time. So, it can be assumed that they parted company before Shen founded the crane school and implemented the flying ability in his curriculum. But Tao ought to have learned flying on his own while they correspodended with Shen occasionally. Or Shen has his fellows who find out him this, that and the other. Otherwise, Shen wouldn't have any hatred against Goku after hearing that he obliterated Mercenary Tao (before he turned into a Cyborg)

3. His flying ability hadn't reached the level having been expected  from him
Thus, he preferred moving by a tree trunk or a pillar in order to moving along from A to B. Even if he flew during a battle, he wouldn't be able to dodge any foe's attacks in the air.

So, it would explain why it was easy for Goku to defeat ihm

4. He is another type of cyborg and not like Android 17, Android 18 etc.
According to Mercenary Tao returning as cyborg during the 23rd Great Tournament in the Piccolo-arc of Dragon Ball Classic, it is assumed that Dr. Gero was the one who replaced Mercenary Tao's missing body parts. If that was the case, it would mean that Dr. Gero wasn't so far with his cyborg projects back then and thus, continued his research as stated by himself the Cell-Arc in Dragon Ball Z.

Android 17 and Androis 18 had been modified cellulary to an extent having infinite power and infinite stamina. Whereas, Android 16 and Android 19 are 100% artificial and no living beings. So, during his research, Dr. Gero has turned Mercenary Tao into a cyborg and whereby implementing some features making it possible to fly. But Mercerary Tao himself wouldn't know a thing about it. Whether Dr. Gero was very busy with his research to the extent not having been able to tell him about it or Mercenary Tao was in a hurry - like always - and thus, eloped without hearing about the additional features.

All in all, of course, Mercenary Tao could be able to fly but if that was the case, it would be similar to Goku when he was able to levitate for a short amount of time - until the fight against Raditz in DBZ - but wasn't able to dodge in the air before he mastered the flying to the extend that he haven't to think about it while doing so.

Ihr kennt ja natürlich den Tao Bai Bai, einer der ersten Hauptantagonisten der gesamten Dragon Ball-Reihe. Der Auftragskiller kehrte ja im Piccolo-Arc von Dragon Ball Classic wieder als Cyborg zurück und hatte in Dragon Ball Z (aber nicht in dem HD-Remastered Remake Dragon Ball Kai) ein paar Gastauftritte. 
Und ich persönlich würde gerne mal ein Rematch zwischen Tenshinhan und Tao Bai Bai oder Chao-Zu und Tao Bai Bai in Dragon Ball Super sehen, mit der Metabotschaft: "Seit wir längst nicht mehr zu der Schule deines Bruders gehören, geht es uns viel besser und wir haben es Muten Roshi zu verdanken, dass nun zwischen dir und uns Welten liegen.

Doch man hat Tao Bai Bai kein einziges Mal fliegen sehen, sondern er "flog" immer mit einem Baumstamm oder einer Säule. 
Aber kann er überhaupt fliegen? Denn schließlich ist er auch der jüngere Bruder von Herrn der Kraniche, welcher der Meister von Tenshinhan und Chao-Zu war (bevor diese die Seiten wechselten) und logischerweise müsste dann Tao Bai Bai auch fliegen können.

Dieser Frage will ich mal genauer auf den Grund gehen.
Im Folgenden füge ich noch mal alle Indizien zusammen; zeige auf, ob sie wirklich als Hints gelten und schlussfolgere letztlich, ob Tao Bai Bai überhaupt fliegen kann.

Let's go:

1. In den Spielen Dragon Ball Z - Budokai Tenkaichi 1 und 3 kann er fliegen

Sowohl Tao Bai Bai als normaler Mensch als auch Cyborg Tao Bai Bai können in diesen beiden Spielen fliegen. Und jeder Charakter, der in der Storyline fliegen kann, kann auch in den Spielen fliegen. Also müsste Tao Bai Bai, in der Storyline, ebenfalls dazu imstande sein. Jeder, diese beiden Spiele gespielt hat, weiß, wovon ich rede.
Und falls ihr noch nie Budokai Tenkaichi 3 gespielt habt, werdet ihr natürlich zahlreiche YouTube-Videos finden, mittels derer ihr euch einen Eindruck davon machen könnt und da werdet ihr sehen, dass Tao Bai Bai dort fliegen kann.

2. Er ist der Bruder vom Herrn der Kraniche
Dass er der Bruder vom Herrn der Kraniche ist, heißt nicht zwar automatisch, dass sie beide zur selben Zeit das Fliegen erlernt haben und es kann sein, dass sich ihre Wege getrennt hatten, bevor letztgenannter seine Kranich-Schule gründete und in seinem Curriculum das Fliegen implementierte. Doch Tao Bai Bai müsste sich dann hinterher selbst das Fliegen beigebracht haben, weil die beiden bestimmt zwischendurch mal korrespondiert haben müssten. Oder der Herr der Kraniche hat eben seine Leute, die für ihn dies, das und jenes in Erfahrung bringen. Sonst hätte er auch keinen Hass auf Son Goku gehabt, nachdem er erfuhr, dass dieser Tao Bai Bai besiegt hat (bevor dieser dann zum Cyborg wurde)

3. Seine Flugfähigkeit hat wohl nicht das Level erreicht, was man von ihm erwarten würde.
Deswegen zog er es eher vor, sich mit einem Baumstamm oder einer Säule sehr schnell von A nach B zu begeben. Und selbst wenn er während eines Kampfes fliegen würde, könnte er dann in der Luft keinerlei Attacken ausweichen.

Folglich würde es erklären, warum es für Son Goku ein Leichtes war, ihn zu besiegen.

4. Er ist eine andere Art von Cyborg und nicht so wie C17, C18 etc.
Bezüglich Tao Bai Bais Rückkehr als Cyborg, im 23. Großen Turnier im Piccolo-Arc in Dragon Ball Classic, wird davon ausgegangen, dass Dr. Gero bei Tao Bai Bai die fehlenden Körperteile ersetzt hat. Wenn dem so ist, dann würde es bedeuten, dass Dr. Gero mit seinen Cyborg-Projekten zu der Zeit noch nicht so weit war und er weiter geforscht hatte, wie dieser im Cell-Arc in Dragon Ball Z zu verstehen gab.

C17 und C18 wurden, auf zellularer Ebene, dahingehend modifiziert, dass sie unendlich viel Kraft und unendlich viel Ausdauer haben. C16 und C19 hingegen sind zu 100% künstlich und keine Lebewesen.
Also noch während seiner Forschungsarbeit hatte Dr. Gero Tao Bai Bai zum Cyborg umgebaut und daher könnte er in ihm ein paar Features eingebaut haben, die es ihm ermöglichen, richtig zu fliegen, doch Tao Bai Bai selbst weiß es wohl nicht, weil entweder Dr. Gero mit seinen Forschungen so beschäftigt war, dass er ihm nicht alles erklären konnte oder Tao Bai Bai hatte es - wie immer - eilig gehabt und ist abgehauen, ohne etwas von den zusätzlichen Features erfahren zu haben.

Summa summarum könnte Tao Bai Bai natürlich fliegen, aber dann wäre es so ähnlich wie bei Son Goku, der - bis zum Kampf gegen Raditz in DBZ - nur kurz schweben konnte und noch nicht in der Luft ausweichen konnte, bevor dieser dann endlich das Fliegen gemeistert hat und er nicht mehr nachdenken muss, wenn er es macht.
