Mewtwo |
Ever heard about Project M before? It's the famous mod from the Wii-game Super Smash Bros. Brawl and also contains features from the GameCube-game Super Smash Bros. Melee. In other words, it contains the best of both games. For example, Mewtwo and Roy are available in the character roaster - unlike the original Wii-game Brawl. Furthermore, some popular Melee-Stages are also implemented. When I experienced about Project M for the first time some years ago, I was very excited but that is understandable.
This mod packed a punch: Despite Nintendo was very angry about this wide distribution, it has entertained the Smash Bros.-community and even e-Sport-tournaments had also be organized and realized for this mod.

But unfortunately, the availability as well as the further distribution from Project M have must be quit on 1st December 2015. But it doesn't mean it should be entirely quit because there is maybe a way to "revive" this mod by turning it to a retail version without fearing indictments by Nintendo. Why should not Nintendo be the one to turn it into a retail version?
However, Project M would be a decisive basement for a remake from Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Switch. Nintendo could utilize this mod and must only change some details because the most work for this has been done by the modders who did not spare any efforts in order to create this exciting masterpiece.
And EVERYONE could play Project M and not only the ones who have the NTSC-Version from the Wii itself.
Furthermore, the entire effort by the modders wouldn't be in vain. A win-win-situation for the developers (from Nintendo), the modders and for the final-consumers (i.e. the gamers) too, isn't it?
Besides, more features have to be added in order to turn that retail version into a very exciting remake for the Switch.
For example, the character roaster should be expanded by:
And these features would also be worth to add in this potential retail version: Custom Moves (also including a few of Smash 4) and more stages.
For example, the character roaster should be expanded by:
- Waluigi
- Ash-Greninja (as standalone character)
- Shadow the Hedgehog
- Chunky Kong
- Zygarde (in his Complete Form)
- Geno
- Blastoise*
- Venusaur*
And these features would also be worth to add in this potential retail version: Custom Moves (also including a few of Smash 4) and more stages.
As icing on the top, this potential remake might get the title "Super Smash Bros. Brawl DX" (and in Japanese, it could get the name 大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズXYZ).
All in all, it is a good idea to utilize Project M. Despite I do not detest the original Wii-game Brawl, the mod Project M is de facto the worthiest sequel from Melee and a retail version from this mod (but utilized as remake from Brawl for the Switch with additional features) would only have great advantages for the Smash Bros.-community.
And now to the QOTD: What do you think about his idea? Would you also have a retail version from Project M declared as remake from Brawl? Or would you currently prefer an entire new Smash Bros.-game for the Switch? Please write it in the comments.
