-ナルト- 疾風伝 ナルティメットストーム レボリューション |
Actually inventive to implement the mode Ninja-World-Tournament where you can participate at battle royal combats against CPUs. A story about the game-exclusive character Mecha-Naruto was also magnificent.
In spite of that, this game has to be examined more accurately.
The initial question of my today's review is: Was the game Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution really so revolutionary that it has the potential to become a timeless classic when at least ten years have passed since its release?
In the following, I'm gonna examine the general features of this game; then, I inquire into the mode Ninja Escapades and at last, I analyze the additional DLC packs.
1. In this game, you can choose EITHER Ultimate Jutsu Type, Awakening Type OR Drive Type and this is the only game of the Naruto (Shippūden) Ultimate Ninja Storm-game series where is a go/no-go type. The more surprised I was when Naruto Shippūden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 had been released when you can use Awakening Type AND Ultimate Jutsu Type at the same time in a fight again and the Drive type has been removed.
Hence, this restriction in Storm Revolution was really stupid. Enough said about that.
2. According the mode Ninja Escapades, it was very interesting because it is supposed to be an addition to the story-line which should enlighten some aspects never (or at least inadequate) explained either in the manga or in the anime. Indeed, it can be regarded as addition in a way: You can see Pre-Akatsuki Sasori during his recruitment; Shisui's Susano'o is also a masterpiece and moreover, you can better comprehend why Naruto Uzumaki is supposed to be considered as manifest of Obito's personality in his past.
These three pics represents their respective sequences in the mode Ninja Escapades |
Pre-Akatsuki Hidan in the cutscenes vs. Pre-Akatsuki Hidan in Shippûden Episode 457 |
Above: Jūzō with Itachi Down: Hidan's predecessor with Kakuzu in the background |
The thing is: Shisui's encounter with Danzō was unseen in the manga, but it has been portrayed 3 times differently in: the novel Itachi's Story, Vol. 2; in the anime Naruto Shippūden Episode 358 and in the cut-scenes from the game Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution. Anyway, the anime has more priority over the game's cut-scenes.

The Ten-Tails shown in the anime vs. The Ten-Tails shown in the game's cut-scenes |
Paradoxically, when Obito uses a jutsu concerning the Ten-Tails, it has his deformed body. You can shout: "Chillax, man", but I response: "Going all out and not messing around while creating a game".
By the way, we all know that the Ten-Tails wasn't able to turn in his complete form during the 4th Ninja World War because unlike the other tailed beasts, only the chakra fragments of the Eight-Tails as well as the Nine-Tails were sealed in the Gedo Statue. Hence, the Ten-Tails couldn't get his complete form but it seems that the game's developers hadn't realized it.
All in all, the cut-scenes from the mode Ninja-Escapades can cover decisive parts of the story-line only to a certain degree due to the contradictions concerning to most of the a priori shown materials of the anime.
Why they hadn't added Yahiko as standalone character (instead of rehashing him as an alternate custom)? |
In fact, concerning Pain's alternate custom manifested as Yahiko being alive but still with the same move-set of Pain. The thing is: Instead, they could have released a DLC pack with additional characters and in this frame, they could have released Yahiko (as standalone character, notabene) with his original move set (i.e. he had access to the Water Style, Fire Style and Wind Style and he had always carried a sword which means he was also skilled in sword fighting).
In other words, Yahiko has really deserved to be a standalone character in a game because he was the leader of the Akatsuki before it has been turned into an evil organisation (or rather before he died) and a leader is supposed to be abnormally strong.
In any case, it's a shame that there were no DLC packs with additional characters but only packs with alternate costumes or the like in the game Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution.
Conclusion: By itself, Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution is a game which was hitherto an unparalleled in the entire game series. Sometimes, I still play this game but it cannot be considered as a potential timeless classic. From today's view, this game is nothing compared to the predecessor games as well as to the successor games, whereby it was predictable - not least due to the game's unnecessary restrictions and the contradictions concerning the cut-scenes from the mode Ninja-Escapdes. And the Drive Type was really superfluous.
All in all, I would rate this game with 2.5 of 5 stars. So, I would suggest you buying the Samurai-Edition (instead of the Standard-Edition) due to the extras which are included. I possess the Samurai-Edition too, so I can confirm that it's really worth it.
The Samurai-Edition contains the game itself; a figurine of Naruto in Samurai outfit; the OVA "Sunny Side Battle"; a metal case and three DLC-suits Here you can purchase the PS3-Version of it: https://amzn.to/2Abad5O* (EU-version) |
And now, I ask you: What do you think about the game Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution? Do you still play this game? And if you don't have it yet, would you still buy it? Please write it in the comments.
